The first issue of Fantastic Four by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, published in November 1961. Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm are bombarded by cosmic rays during an unauthorized rocket flight, gaining fantastic super-powers. Reed becomes the elastic Mr. Fantastic, Sue the invisible Girl, Johnny the Human Torch, and Ben the Thing. Together they become the Fantastic Four — and Marvel Comics is born. This single issue launched the Marvel Age of Comics.
