The first issue of the X-Men by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, published in September 1963. Professor Xavier assembles his first team of mutant students: Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast, Iceman, and Angel. Magneto attacks Cape Citadel in the debut appearance of both the X-Men and their greatest villain. This issue launched one of the most beloved franchises in comics history and introduced the concept of mutants to the Marvel Universe.
