Winter Soldier

Winter Soldier, born Bucky Barnes, was Captain America's teenage partner in World War II — believed killed in action when the drone plane that killed him exploded over the Atlantic. In reality, the Soviets recovered his body, replaced his missing arm with a cybernetic prosthetic, and brainwashed him into becoming the Winter Soldier, a lethal covert assassin. Freed from his programming by Steve Rogers, Bucky reclaimed his identity — and eventually took up the Captain America shield himself.
