Nightcrawler, born Kurt Wagner, is a German mutant with the appearance of a blue-skinned demon — pointed tail, yellow eyes, and only two fingers on each hand — who can teleport in a puff of brimstone smoke. Despite looking like a creature from a nightmare, Kurt is the most openly joyful and religious member of the X-Men: a devout Catholic acrobat with a swashbuckling personality. His combination of frightening appearance and genuine warmth makes him one of Marvel's most beloved characters.
